A plethora of celestial activity this week including the landing of Curiosity on Mars and the annual Perseid Meteor Shower have caused our necks to be sore as we turned our gaze to the great possibilities of the night sky. With the nameless vistas that lie beyond the horizons, its no wonder that space travel is becoming more and more likely a reality.
If you haven't been following the news lately, the NASA Mars Rover, Curiosity, made a crash landing onto the red planet. The rover will identify the possibilities of organisms and past organisms that may have lived on Mars. Curiosity has already been sending back photos, and the landing was shown on the big screen in
Times Square.
The annual Perseid Meteor Shower peaks this weekend and will hopefully put on another spectacular show. The peak is on the 12th, and bar air pollution and clouds, is one of the premier shooting-star watching events each year.
Our members have been turning their lenses upwards as well, a feat not for an amateur photographer. Photographing the night sky still remains a difficult task, but the results can be outstanding. From all around the world, some of our favorite photos make us wonder what future travels could be past our own atmosphere.
