There's a little (and I mean little) place in the middle of the NYC Fashion District that makes you feel like you've transported to Paris. It's called MacarOn Cafe and...yep, you guessed it - they specialize in macarons. Wonderful colorful sweet bites that melt in your mouth.

We were recommended to this place by a friend of ours who lives in the city, and when we turned down West 36th Street we almost passed the little entrance way covered in a pale pink overhang. Outside was a small daily specials board announcing the featured lunch. When we walked in, although I expected it to be small, I think it caught us off-guard how actually small it really was. With about 8 of us customers in there, it felt absolutely packed.

Everyone shuffled around each other to get a peek into the glass case filled with the pastel macarons. We ordered a lovely gift box full for our friend, and then had them recommend 4 of the most popular flavors for our afternoon snack. They ended up giving us dark chocolate, coconut, pistachio, and rose/litchee. Luckily we found a small seat in the back to enjoy the bites along with an espresso from the coffee bar.

As we'd already had lunch that day, we didn't get to try any of the wonderful-sounding salads or baguette sandwiches that we'd heard great things about. The menu sounded very tasty , especially the Capri sandwich with goat cheese, apples, raisins, pine nuts, lettuce, and honey. Oh well, we'll save it for next time!

There is a small gift section at the front window with mugs and fancy boxes as well as a cafe table for two. In the very back there is a padded booth against the wall with a table where about 3-4 people can sit. Expect to grab something to-go if it's during lunch rush. Prices are $1.95 per macaron, and there are discounts for quantities of 6, 12, and 24. For the regular menu, breakfast runs under $5 for entrees like eggs on a croissant, and lunch is about $8 for a salad or sandwich. THere is a full coffee bar with all the standards, including a personal French Press.
