To get a vague orientation of the beauty that awaits you, walk over Augustusbrucke from where a conglomeration of unique architectural treasures are visible dominating Dresden's skyline.

- Dresden looks like a veritable baroque capital, with this architectural style being predominant here like nowhere else I have been. This journal looks at some well-known and other, less famous places to see.

- I was here for three days in late June 2001 and absolutely fell in love with the city. I would recommend a visit to anyone with an interest in German history, art, architecture, or student culture.

- During mid-February, 1945, Allied bombs destroyed this historical city of Baroque architectural monuments. More than 35,000 lives were lost. Since about 1985, much effort has been made to rebuild and restore this city which was once the cultural capital of Germany.
