MilwVon can’t get enough of Alaska, which works out well for us, because we can’t get enough of her Alaska trip journals. With six entries and a whopping 77 photos, her latest captures a February trip to party at Anchorage’s Fur Rondy.

In Rendezvous Alaskan Style MilwVon shares her secrets to a fantastic Anchorage getaway, including when to go (during the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous Festival in late February or early March); what to wear (prepare for “moderate” temperatures in the high 20s to high 30s); and where to eat (“Anchorage would give Milwaukee a run for their money on the number of bars per capita”).

She also brings us inside the Alaskan sled-dog world with tales from the Mushers’ Banquet and goes mushing with an Iditarod team--where she confirms the truth of the saying, “If you’re not the lead dog, the scenery never changes.”

Throw in a few snow sculptures, some Yummy Chummies, and a reindeer run, and we start to see why our traveler’s Alaska wish is to “figure out a way to get to Anchorage for the full ten days to take in all three days of racing, more local activities AND the start of the world-famous Iditarod.” Luckily, there's always next year.

Hey thanks for featuring my latest Alaskan adventure here on the blog! Unfortunately, ten days will not be possible in 2011, but plans are already underway for an even longer "weekend" (five days!) that will include the last couple of days of the Fur Rondy PLUS the start of the "Last Great Race on Earth" . . . the Iditarod with the ceremonial start on Saturday from downtown Anchorage and the official start the next day up in Willow.

Awesome journal, Yvonne! This gives me a lot of ideas for my trip to Alaska in 56 more days! Yes, I am counting down the days. I really enjoyed reading about the Fur Rondy adventures and your dog mushing escapade. I'll have to stop by that place they make the dog treats for some treats for my new pup, Amanda, who is eating everything in site including Mom's cell phone.
