Resort Experience:
This timeshare is currently being remodeled; our room was spacious and adequately furnished, but shabby. The already finished units are some of the most beautiful I've encountered. The staff were all very friendly, very efficient, and extremely accommodating. I felt like a princess!

I loved the beachside restaurant with a huge buffet every evening featuring a different ethnic cuisine each time. Drinks were great, waiters entertaining, and live music superb. Loved the massage in a beachside palapa, the hot tub, cyber room, three pools, tennis courts, close to downtown, shopping plazas, and excursion dock.

Quote: Atmosphere like a Mayan jungle with hibiscus hanging over replicas of Mayan temples. Waiters were delightful and very attentive. Food was incredible. The best dish is the specialty of the house, a shrimp and lobster curry served in a coconut with pineapple! For dessert try the bananas flambe. We especially enjoyed the wine steward's discussion of trips to our local vineyards here in Livermore, CA, for wines! It's definitely a winner!

Quote: What better way to cool off in this humid, hot climate than a swim through an underground cave in a cool river winding through a half mile of jungle! Afterwards, relax at a beachside bar while watching children and adults cavorting with dolphins (optional activity with extra charge over the $50 entrance fee). Then amble through the tropical jungle, viewing monkeys, jaguars, macaws, and toucans, through ancient Mayan ruins, and quaint Mexican village replica.

Butterfly farm was beautiful, but the crowning event is the Mayan and Mexican pageant in the amphitheater at 7pm. Best seats are with the $20 three-course dinner. The magical, mystical feeling of ancient Maya returns with the painted feathered warriors and royalty decorated in animal skins recreating ancient ceremonies (sans sacrifice!) and pok ta pok ball games. The second half features standard Mexican regional dances, drummers, lariat demos, and flying Vera Cruz dancers. Wow!

Quote: Tulum is the only ancient Mayan ruin with a wall along the Yucatan coast. About 65% restored, you can still experience the huge dimensions and highly developed technical skills of the post-classical Mayan civilization. My friend and I hired an English-speaking guide for $15 who gave us not only the background of the ruins, but explained the culture in depth. I highly recommend this personal touch.

The guides may charge more, but we happened to come in late afternoon when most of the big tourist buses were gone and the crowd had tapered off. It's quite warm and humid, so suntan lotion and light clothing were a must!

Quote: Chichen Itza is a major Mayan archeological site about three hours drive from Cancun. You can drive there on the toll-road $20 each way (two and a half hours), on a free local road (three hours), or take a tour from the hotel, which is about 12 hours total for $50.

We drove on the toll road and hired a $50 guide speaking English. The site is gigantic and takes at least two hours or more to walk through the whole area. This is pre-classic and classic Mayan period mixed with Toltec civilization with extremely highly-developed concepts of astronomy, politics, and religion, and features some of the most incredible pyramids and other religious structures in the world.
