Exhausting Cancun

A March 2003 trip to Cancun by Tuco

There are many things in Cancun that can make it a very exhausting trip. However, it is definitely worthwhile if you are a party animal.

Cancun was built to be a touristic place, so it has many commodities for all tastes: relaxed, family, adventure, nightlife, etc, etc. Just about anything you can imagine, you can get here. There's actually so much to do that you probably won't be able to do it all in a week or even two!

You can also visit the town, the bus will take you there, so you can take a closer look at the Mexican lifestyle of the people in Cancun. Some say you don't know a place until you get out and talk to the locals - well, you can try that as well.

Quick Tips:

If you are buying something, bargain, they are expecting you to!! Also corruption is at a very high peak there, you can get away with almost anything there for the right price, so if you really want to do something, and someone tells you you can't, just offer some money and you'll probably be able to. This is not nice at all, but that's just the way it is.

And by the way, don't piss on the street, you'll get arrested for that (or you can pay the cops not to take you in, and there are a LOT of cops out there).

Best Way To Get Around:

The bus is just great, it's and it will take you anywhere you want to go. If you are unsure where is the place that you want to go, just ask the driver to tell you where you have to get off, they are very nice and will let you know.

If you are taking a cab, ask the price of the ride first, and remember - bargain! And if you don't have a ride to the hotel when you get there, don't take those taxi vans, you'll be better off in a regular cab. But if you like to walk, you can also walk just about everywhere, it's safe at any time as there are many cops out there 24/7.

Best Things Nearby:
La Isla shopping center is right in front of it, where you can find an aquarium, souvenir shops, nice restaurants, and even a movie theater. It's also not so far from all the clubs and bars, and a bank nearby for those "emergencies".

Best Things About the Resort:
The people are very nice, and the bartenders are a whole lot of fun. The activities crew is a crazy bunch of party animals. They have a bus that goes to a disco at night that takes you for free and you can skip the line with them and use up all your time just partying and not standing in line (lines in Cancun are usually long).

The room was quite nice and well-equipped.

Resort Experience:
It has three bars and two restaurants (one of them you have to make a reservation, so get there early, around 3pm, to make your reservation and enjoy a very good dinner). There's two pyramid shaped buildings for the rooms, and it's beachfront (just like most hotels in Cancun). It's all-inclusive so that's usually a plus, and they have extra benefits depending on how long you stay (free dinner, tour and movie tickets for more than four days I think). There's a little Mayan ruin right next to it too.

The place is just a blast. They have all sorts of funny quotes or messages in the roof that everyone usually spends a while looking at (though you probably won't get to read them all). They have lots of activities and contests, and everyone there is always crazy. The food is just as good as the fun environment. They sort of serve "commercialized" Mexican food, but it is very good. It's not cheap, but it's not all that expensive either.

Attraction

The place definitely rocks, but don't get there too early as it doesn't start getting good until around midnight. However, the later you get there the longer the line. Everybody starts hopping on the barn and dancing there since it's quite wide and the place starts getting better and better.

There are two different moods there. There's hip hop in one side and rave in the other, so you can choose where to stay, or go back and forth. The place is a little far from the rest of the clubs and all the action, but you can easily ride the bus over and it's not such a long trip.

If you are looking for fun in your trip, this a place you cannot miss. Be sure to give a nice tip to a waiter, and then keep asking him for the drinks all night, he will take care of you. But if you don't tip, it's going to be a while before you get served. Don't waste your money on the tip jars either, give it to the guy. So get on the bus, stand in line for a little while, and get ready to party until around 5am.

Attraction

The place is just wild and huge. It's about two floors of people dancing in what seems like a stadium. Be sure to give a nice tip to one of the waiters and then you'll be taken care of. If not you will have a hard time getting any drinks. It's wild and the line is long, but be patient, the time spent in line is worth once you get inside. Don't go there if you are relaxed and don't like a very crowded disco. They have some shows and imitations that are a lot of fun too.

Attraction

The place is simply magical. The only thing that I didn't quite enjoy was the heat, but after a while it becomes bearable. But disregarding that, you can almost feel the Mayans making the sacrifice of a princess to their gods. You can go up one of the pyramids and see the whole park which just a spectacular view.

I have not seen that at night, but I hear it's awesome to see that when the right stars are aligned a snake forms with the shades on some temples -- that has to be worth the trip at night much more than it already is during the day.

The place rocks, but not until around 11-12pm of course. They have contests and stuff, and I even got to see a bikini contest that was just unbelievable.

The music is great, the ambience on the inside is for heavy party-ers, but it also has some space outside that's more suitable if you want to chat with friends -- it's still a little loud, but not as loud as the inside.

Also, there's one day of the week (I believe it was Thursday) in which you can pay to get into all the daddys ('O, Rock, etc) for one price so you can choose some more and it's worth it.
