Top 10 Things To Do in Nassau

From its powder-soft beaches to its thriving ... Read More From its powder-soft beaches to its thriving markets to its rich coral reefs, you’ll have no trouble filling your days in Nassau.

If you’re tired of lazing the days away on South Ocean Beach, or wading the waters of resort-lined Cable Beach, perhaps a day trip to Blue Lagoon Island is in store. This one-time stopover for pirates and privateers has become a popular pint-sized paradise, surrounded by gleaming blue water. Children and adults alike love the island’s Dolphin Encounter, where for the price of admission you can swim – and take your picture – with the tame trained dolphins.

Those seeking a more active off-the-island activity need look no further than one of Nassau’s many “adventure” offerings. These trips, offered by companies like Power Boat Adventures and Island World Adventures take guests past cays and islets, snorkeling over coral reefs, and feeding wild stingrays, sharks and iguanas. And if you’re looking to move up from snorkeling to scuba, Bahama Divers is the place to call.

Recreation isn’t always beach-bound in Nassau. Families flock to the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center, where trained flamingos march on command and Lorry parrots eat out of your hand. The Straw Market is a popular draw for tourists, and specializes in the straw work the Bahamas have become known for, along with a host of other handicrafts. And for those lucky enough to spend Christmas in Nassau, the Mardis-Gras-like Junkanoo Celebration– a colorful parade of costumes, dancing and music – is a special holiday treat. Close
