Bellini

Harry’s Bar, Venice, Italy

Sure, Harry’s Bar is one of the top tourist attractions in Venice and some consider it an “expensive” and “old-fashioned spot.” But the subtle charm of this famous watering hole has kept it one of the “best-known drinking venues” in the city. The “classy vintage décor” suggests little has changed since the days that Humphrey Bogart, Charlie Chaplin and Ernest Hemingway drank there, including their famous bellinis.

Brazil’s national drink, the caipirinha, is a deliciously sweet treat. The best are found in Rio de Janeiro, where ingredients range from passion fruit and lemon to an assortment of tropical fruits and the traditional lime. Champagne

This one is easy, as France’s Champagne region is hard to beat. Visitors should check out the cave of Piper-Heidsieck, which provides “fantastic tours” and an “opulent bar” where visitors get three glasses of champagne with the purchase of a VIP ticket.

Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Visitors to Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen in Sante Fe say it’s the place to find the “best margaritas you’ve ever had.” The restaurant is known for making a “terrific” margarita on the rocks, and those that are made with reposado tequila are not to be missed.

Brettos, Athens, Greece

It’s a popular drink all over the Caribbean, but devotees know this rum-based drink is best experienced at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, named so for the fact that visitors arriving by boat will have to swim to shore and as a result will have wet money. This is where the Painkiller originated, so, of course, you “have to try one.” And you’ll be glad you did; they’re “amazing.”

Sipping port is a favorite pastime in Portugal, and for anyone with even a passing interest in port, the Solar do Vinho do Porto, the official bar of the Port Wine Institute, is an “absolute must-do.” The selection of over 400 varieties of wine available is “staggering.”

Sake

Gonpachi, Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo’s Gonpachi restaurant never seems to go out of style, with special seats available for drinking sake and private rooms with great views of the high-ceilinged restaurant. One of the highlights of the restaurant is the top floor, which has garden seats “allowing you to escape and forget the busy city.”
