Alaska is a big place--more than twice the size of Texas--and our Traveler of the Week captured all the best parts during her and her husband's 17-day RV trip. Between plane rides, salmon bakes, fjord tours, and warm, comfy, mobile lodging, MilwVon did Alaska and did it right. She shares her Great Alaska Adventure in a series of journals that are simultaneously a joy to read and a veritable bounty of practical planning tips and ideas.
In Fairbanks, she experienced the best the Interior city has to offer. Our traveler had previously only been to Fairbanks in the winter, and now she can affirm that there's Plenty to See & Do in the Summer Too! The feast of a salmon bake is “not to be missed," and neither is the well regarded Riverboat Discovery Tour, offering a “journey in the history of Alaska’s interior.”

The only mistake MilwVon made in Seward, a leg of the trip recounted in Follies in Seward, was not allotting more time to explore Exit Glacier. Her dining choices, including Ray’s Waterfront, and hotel choice, the Seward Windsong Lodge, were right on--just like her timing on this photo.
Sea Lions in the Kenai Fjords
MilwVon is an old hand at fishing the Kenai Peninsula, and on a previous trip, she and her husband had the priceless experience--see this great review--of catching a king salmon. This time, it was halibut on the other end of the line.
Our favorite journal from her trip is a most thorough and interesting coverage of visits to the National Parks in Alaska, U.S. National Parks in Alaska - Bears and More. The title could not be more perfect--while the reviews are wonderful, it’s really the (bear) photos that caught our eye.

The stories and photos of this awesome trip don’t end on IgoUgo. David & Von's Great Alaskan Adventure is their blog dedicated to the journey--check it out for more great photos and details of the RV aspect of traveling. Excitingly, MilwVon has plans to experience even more of what Alaska has to offer at the Iditarod in March. And this incredible traveler already has a two week trip in Kenya booked for later in 2011--we look forward to close-ups of lions!

Anna thanks so very much for featuring my travels to Alaska. It was really a fantastic trip; I hope my journals and photos represent the vast beauty of Alaska.
Unfortunately recognition as "Traveler of the Week" came before I was able to complete all of the writing and posting of photos I wanted to do from the trip. I have now completed documenting our Great Alaskan Adventure with the addition of more journals, all with many more photos.
Best wishes,
Von
