Two Trips That Will Make You Want Winter Back

Spring is here, and we’re just about ready to shelve snowy getaways for another year. But before you close out the season—north of the equator, anyway—read reviews from two recent cold-weather trips that are so good, they’ll give you chills.

What can we say about callen60’s three-journal, silver-anniversary trip to the Canadian Rockies that will do it justice? We’ll echo a commendation seen on the Forums and call the journals “awe-inspiring” and the trip a “fantastic adventure.” With Winter in Canada’s Rockies, Culinary Canmore, and Mountain Hospitality: Dining and Lodging in Banff, callen60 covers every enjoyable aspect of the Canadian winter. You’ll practically curse spring’s arrival by the time you’re done reading.

Another wonderfully wintry entry comes from haslo04, writing for the first time in almost a year. He takes us Ice Fishing for Beginners in Northern Minnesota, an experience that begins with “driving our unsuspecting Honda Coupe straight off the boating ramp onto the ice”—with, thankfully, an experienced guide at the wheel. The rest of the story is a first-timer’s fascinating look at a sport few people are familiar with, and, lucky for us, haslo04 captured more photographs than fish (though he caught some perch as well). And even better: if you’re bummed about missing the sport’s season this year, haslo04 has a great idea for visiting Minnesota in the summer, too.
