Five Jackpot Journals from Las Vegas

There are a million different ways to vacation in Vegas, and at least half of them are covered in five new journals. Their three writers—one a first-time visitor, one a second-timer, and one an expert—really cover the city to Death (Valley).

One out of every few Las Vegas visitors is a Vegas skeptic, it seems, but our skeptic stepped foot on the Strip for the first time just this year. He’s returned to IgoUgo after a 2-year break to write about his trip in the journal Doing the Las Vegas Strip, in which he explains his sudden interest in Sin City: “Working on a temporary assignment in Los Angeles and having a week to burn off, I figured it was time to see what all the clamor was about. It was worth the drive.” He took the somewhat unorthodox route of staying in a timeshare resort that he says boasts “more swank than you can shake a stick at.” And that, for all you skeptics, is why people love Vegas.

Appropriately enough, wolfscar has two journals to show for his second time in Las Vegas. The first, Eating Out in Sin City, reviews five Strip restaurants (restrooms—or lack thereof—and all). Las Vegas – The Return, meanwhile, contains the rest of the story of how, after six years, he “decided to come back for another go-round to see what's changed, what's stayed the same and where the dice would fall.” He speaks the language after only two visits!

On to our expert, Carmen. She’s been to Vegas so many times that she didn’t even stay entirely in the city this time around; one morning, she jumped in a 4X4 for a Death Valley Adventure Day. The comedienne, it turns out, can make even the depths of Death Valley funny, titling one review, I Be Hebe at Ubehebe Crater. Back in town after the excursion, she chronicles Christmastime in Sin City (Plus Some Best Ofs). Both the December-centric reviews and the more general “Best Of” fare are fantastic, so don’t miss this journal if you’re thinking of playing in Vegas this year.
