Like father, like son(s): the IgoUgo staff and our thousands of members have at least one commonality—we love to eat. More importantly, we love to eat in our hometowns (or adopted hometowns), as exemplified by a smattering of IgoUgo gourmands.
Chicago brings out the foodie in all of us, but especially in its residents. In the latest follow-up to her previous seven Chicago journals, Sierra, the city’s prolific champion, updates her Good Eats in the Windy City with a Spring 2007 version—in addition to her musings on Chicago’s cozy, caffeinated dining personalities. Chicago_Dave samples the city’s Italian heritage in his ode to hometown dining, even expounding upon the appeal of—gasp—a chain restaurant.
Red Mezz challenges the stereotypical depiction of British Isles cuisine, specifically Scotland and its Scottish Haggis. The country’s premiere delicacy may be “beans on toast,” and the Scots themselves may “frown on the use of salt or anything else that involves flavor,” but for her adopted hometown, she goes out on a limb to discover the cuisine worth digging into (or at least nibbling on).
Sometimes members prefer to leave the immediate vicinity but still stay on familiar ground for their gourmet investigations. For Tustin, California, native stvchin, that means haunting LA’s San Gabriel Valley, while UK nice-guy MichaelJM hops to nearby Nottingham for Chinese and pub grub. And Houghton, New York, resident captain_kait shows she’s no townie, citing hip, budget-friendly Spice and A Salt and Battery as her New York City staples.
