Not the greatest by any means

This is a hotel you stay at if you really don't care about the room at all. The service at the front desk was ok but it seemed like they didn't have enough staff working. It took 3 requests to finally get a pack and play brought to the room. We left the hotel at 4pm and they said they would put it up there and when we got back at 9:30pm it still was in the room. It was pretty basic in the room. We found live bugs in the bathroom (disgusting by the way) and food from other travelers on the floor of the room in plain sight. They left us with 1/4 roll of toilet paper in the room and no extra and when we went downstairs to get more the front desk clerk said he couldn't leave the desk at the moment (understaffed) and gave us some facial tissues to use. Finally when we were checking out the front desk clerk ran out of paper for the computer and then took 10 minutes to find more, mumbling to himself the whole time. In closing, if you want to stay here in Chicago with your family and young ones do not go here. If you're just in town to catch a couple of Cubs games or something and not going to be in the room much then you can beat the price but don't expect anything nice at all.

the important thing for this hotel is its location, it is on the heart of chicago downtown.

Very basic

Yes, the rooms are small, but we spent minimal time there, and we weren't looking for a luxury experience. Check in/out went smoothly, and the valet ($36/day, as specified on their web site), was polite and helpful. Everything was very clean - no complaints there. The bathtub was showing signs of wear, though, and faucet dripped. Also, paint on the soap dish adjacent to the sink was flaking off. The only significant problem was the temperature of the water in the shower: it barely reached tepid. Oddly enough, you could get the water in the sink piping hot though... It was very convenient for us (location-wise), and the price was right. I can put up with slightly cramped quarters in the room and elevator as long as it's clean, which this was. If they could only get the hot water working in the shower, I'd give this a rating of "good," instead of just "okay."

When it was the Raphael Hotel it was charming. Now it is dingy and depressing. The room was so small you had to go out in the hall to change your mind. The staff was nice, but the rooms were dark and dingy, the carpeting in the halls and in the room were stained and dirty. The maid service was top notch, everything clean and done quickly. Still, don't think I would ever stay there again.

If you have to sleep cheap

I work for a police department in the narcotics bureau and I've been in nicer crack houses. We had a King Suite and one bathroom the roof was falling in and the other had mold growing on the ceiling. The toilet ran unless you took off the lid ad adjusted the water hose. There was a smell associated with the mold I think. My travel companions had their room broken into and items stolen by the staff, as there was no sign of forced entry. The elevators are tiny and there are only two for a 16 story hotel. I seriously would not stay here if it was free. I believe that you only get a room in Chicago to sleep, but come on this is ridiculous for a nationwide chain. The limited contact I had with the staff seemed as though they were annoyed by the fact you needed service. Add some more money and enjoy your stay at another facility
Stayed here before? How was it?
