BonBini Divers

We did both boat dives and shore diving on Bonaire and they were equally awesome. There are so many fabulous, easily accessible shore dives, that it's not not necessary to spend money on boat dives except to reach Klein Bonaire. It is impossible to do every shore dive in a week, but we managed to do 23 dives in six days.

The RCI Lion's Dive resort where we stayed is so convenient for divers. We would walk a short distance to the dock for shore dives at the resort -- our favorite spot for night dives. We stored our equipment near the dock and had access to tanks day and night. The shore diving package was only $115 for the week, which included tanks and weights. Ask Shaba at the scuba air fill station for a few spare O-rings or bring some yourself when shore diving away from the resort. It's frustrating to be all suited up to dive and discover your tank's O-ring is shot.

My favorite Bonaire dives were Angel City, Oil Slick, and Salt Pier. My husband's favorite was 1,000 Steps -- you have to be in shape to do this as a shore dive! Bonaire's corals are the best we've seen. We especially loved our night dives there. Bonaire is not particularly beautiful topside, but under the water, it is amazing.

BonBini Divers

BonBini Divers were great. They had a shore diving package for $115 for six days of unlimited shore diving which included tanks and weights. We were able to store our gear near the dock and dive off the dock day or night. They had a drive-through air station for daytime fills. No one pressured us to sign up for boat dives ($25 per one-tank dive per person). We did a few boat dives, but the shore diving was just as good. Boats dives make it easy for people who are out-of-shape or diving with children who can't walk with a tank on their back. We had to do boat dives to see the little Island of Klein Bonaire, but otherwise, we did mostly shore dives. Our favorites were "Thousand Steps" "Angel City", Salt Pier," and "Oil Slick." Visibility ranged from 40-90 feet. Water temperature in May was 81 F.
