For any traveler, discovering a great place to stay can be one of the mood-setters of the whole trip. But the intimate, off-the-beaten path secret spots and independent hotels usually lack one thing that travelers want: a rewards program. Not anymore -- rewards program newcomer Stash aims to counter that. The service gives out points for the hotels, boutiques, and spas within its network (all on the nicer end, at three-star or higher ratings), as an incentive to stay there instead of at rewards giants like the Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt chains.
The program is still adding to what it calls “fiercely independent hoteliers” on its member list, with around 200 properties so far. But it’s worth a look just to see what’s out there. (Be sure to check the Specials tab for monthly deals.) For a quick idea of what’s available, check out the reviews of a few Stash places on IgoUgo, like Hotel Teatro in Denver, CO, The Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY, and Villa Florence in San Francisco, CA. Member azsunluvr calls the Villa Florence “an interesting mix of old San Francisco architecture with modern furnishings -- and a wonderful treat,” in one of her 2010 trip journals.
Once you’ve accrued points as a Stash member, they can be used like typical rewards programs as cash for free nights at more places, with the added bonus of no-blackout dates. Just like most rewards programs, membership is free.
