Ever since voting in the IgoUgo Photo Feud ended, we’ve been hearing complaints about symptoms of withdrawal. Find some relief with these polls, but consider yourself warned: they’re no less addictive.
Cast your votes for the New 7 Wonders of the World before they’re announced in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 7. The spectacular, to be hosted by Ben Kingsley, is the culmination of a 6-year project to name new wonders while promoting the preservation of world heritage. Choose your favorites from 21 finalists that cover six continents and include the Acropolis, the Great Wall of China, the Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge, and the Sydney Opera House. The polls are still open, but a recent CNN.com article lists the Great Wall, the Colosseum, and Machu Picchu among current top vote-getters. Before you decide on your picks, check out the founder’s blog about his around-the-world trip to all 21 sites.
More modest, and even more entertaining, Rough Guides’ survey of the world’s best ultimate experiences is good for hours of travel inspiration. With choices like heli-hiking on Franz Josef glacier and taking a spice tour of Zanzibar, you may get so involved in planning your dream vacation that you forget to vote. At least look at the current tally for insight into which outrageous experience is garnering the most votes from others.
Sometimes going local is more fun, and you can vote for what you know in Travel + Leisure’s poll to find America’s favorite cities. The results from their last survey, in 2004, are also interesting, if not up-to-the-minute. Along with the winners’ lists, the 2004 page features a vacation finder and a head-to-head city comparison tool. We can’t wait to see how these results compare with the 2007 survey, which throws new cities into the mix.
So while our Photo Feud has wrapped and November 2008 is a long way off, there are plenty of decisions to be made—may the best contenders win.
