It’s always good news when IgoUgo Hall of Famer phileasfogg creates a new journal, but her latest, about a journey to twin towns in Himachal Pradesh, India, is especially notable for its unforgettable opening and perfect close.
In Pragpur and Garli: A Step Back in Time, we find phileasfogg in sightseeing mode—fancy-free, but not exactly footloose, as some coincidental bad luck has her hobbling around the towns’ cobbled streets. Still, she manages to tour two villages in two days, introducing us to the mansions and mustard fields of Pragpur and Garli in the educational, entertaining manner we’ve come to expect.
As for that perfect ending? Consider this preview: “Bonfires in the evening; cocktails at 7:30; tea under the canopy of an old camphor tree; walks through groves of fruit-laden pomelo and orange trees; the sound of birds…bliss.” If every trip ended that perfectly, well, we might never make it home.
