I could see an old beggar woman sitting RIGHT NEXT to Hard Rock Hotel. It's ironic--you felt happy and enjoyable while you're at Kuta, but on the other hand you could still see a beggar begging money just to continue her life at noon.

Kuta has had a lot of changes. When I went there 15 years ago, Kuta was hardly reachable. I remember that my dad's friend carried me on his back just because I was exhausted walking along the road to reach Kuta. Some changes are fun, and some are unjust. However, what never changes is the beach and the waves around it.

Quick Tips:

Just don't care what the coupon-sellers or surveyors say to you. They do nothing. Ignore them; pretend that they're invisible. Bring a lot of mineral water, otherwise you'll be dehydrated.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is nice, although the weather is hot. If you want to go shopping around Kuta, walking is the best way. Pick a recommended taxi, like Blue Bird at (0361) 701111. When the driver doesn't use the taxi meter, leave the taxi as soon as possible. They might charge you a lot.

Mercure Kuta Hotel

Well, in spite of the very famous name of the hotel, I don't think it's a good hotel. The air-conditioner was not working well, and the bathroom was kinda... well, I didn't like it at all. When I was going to book, the rooms were all booked, and I had to wait till evening for a guest checking out of their room. It was fine for me, as the room had an oceanfront view.

Alang Alang Restaurant

Well, when I had dinner at the restaurant, they served Balinese food. I liked the food; it's really nice and delicious. They also had performances of Balinese dance on certain days. Anyway, basically they change the theme of dinner every day. Overall, the restaurant is nice, as they have oceanfront view

Barong Dance Performance

Well, it was in 2001 when I got a chance to see the Barong dance performance. What I wonder most is why, when I took the pictures of the dances, none of them were successfully photographed. My friend experienced the same thing I did! Overall, the dances were fantastic!!

HOT

Experience

When I went there, it was so, so hot that I was exhausted. I walked along Legian and also got a chance to visit Bali Bomb Blast Monument. Be careful with the taxis there, because I had quite an experience with them. The hotel called a taxi for us, but then the driver didn't put on the meter, so he asked us for 60,000 rupiah even though the distance was not that long!
