An Italian restaurant located on Rua Avanhandava in the vicinity of the Grand Hotel Ca’D’Oro, Famiglia Mancini is a treat. Like Sushi-Yassu, this is also a restaurant you’ll see mentioned in major guide books. It deserves the recognition. The menu offers a wide variety of pasta dishes, mostly traditional Italian, but a few with a Brazilian flare. While our pasta was quite good, the highlight of the meal was the antipasti bar, which featured an impressive array of Italian meats and cheeses. You pay by the weight at the antipasti bar. If I ever go back, I’ll consider skipping the pasta altogether and making that my meal. I should also mention that they've got a good wine list, we enjoyed a very nice Merlot with our meal.
On the advice that this is a very popular place, thus long waits are a given at peak dinner hours, we went there in the late afternoon and had no problem getting in.
To get there by metro, exit an the Anhangabau station, take Rua Cel. Xavier de Toldeo towards the Bibliotecha Municipal, then proceed SW on Rua Fontes which will take you to Rua Avanhandava.
The restaurant does accept major credit cards.
One last note, there are a couple of other Italian restaurants in the vicinity that came highly recommended to us, but which we did not try: Ristorante Walter Mancini (Rua Avanhandanva 126, 258-8510) and Il Cacciatore (Rua San Antonio 855, 256-1390). So if you're looking for good Italian food, and have trouble getting in here, there are other options nearby.
